The FAQ below provides answers to frequent questions from donors in different geographies.
Donor Accounts and Login
An account is created for every donor on this website. The donor dashboard provides information and receipts on past donations.
Your account was created when we entered past donations. Please use the “forgot password” link and reset your password.
An account is automatically created when you make your first donation. You will receive an email (on the address you provided while making the donation) to reset your system generated password.
You can also create an account by registering on the website. Click “Register” at the top to do so.
Yes, we can. Please let us know the emails (likely ones if you do not remember them exactly) under which these accounts were created.
Donors Resident in India
Donors can use the PayU gateway for online donations or make an offline donation by mailing a cheque or doing a bank transfer.
After you complete the donation forms you can choose “cheque/wire/other currencies”. You will receive a mail which contains instructions on making a bank transfer or mailing a cheque. Once we receive the transfer/cheque we will update the information on this website and mail you a receipt.
PayU is a popular gateway used by many ecommerce websites and is considered safe. IITD has negotiated very attractive transaction fees with PayU. These convenience fees will be added to your donation amount and will be shown to you before you complete the donation.
All contributions receive 100% deduction from taxable income without any qualifying limit under Section 80(G) of Indian Income Tax Laws. The receipt provided by IITD is sufficient to claim these benefits.
Unfortunately, the PayU gateway does not support recurring donations. Please send a mail to unlimiitd@admin.iitd.ac.in if you would like to make a recurring donation and inform us of the amount and date. We would be happy to send you a reminder close to the date.
Donors Resident in the US
We advise donors to send their contributions to the IIT Delhi Excellence Foundation (IITDEF) or the IIT Delhi Endowment Foundation (also IITDEF), both of which are 501(c)(3) registered charities in the US.
Donors can use the PayPal gateway with a debit/credit card to make online donations. The money is received by IITDEF which will transfer it to IITD. IITDEF will issue a receipt to the donor which can be used to claim tax exemptions.
After you complete the donation forms you should choose “cheque/wire/other currencies”. You will receive a mail which contains instructions on the various ways you can send money to IITDEF (cheque, wire-transfer, Zelle, PayPal). Once IITDEF receives your contribution and sends us a confirmation we will update the information on this website and mail you a receipt.
Donations made via the IITDEF are tax-deductible under US tax law. You can find IITDEF in the public charities registry here.
Please send a mail to unlimiitd@admin.iitd.ac.in if you would like to make a recurring donation and inform us of the amount and date. We would be happy to send you a reminder close to the date.
IIT Delhi Excellence Foundation is registered with Benevity for receiving corporate matching grants.
Donors Resident in the UK
We advise donors to send their contributions to the IIT Alumni Association UK which is registered with the HMRC for “Gift Aid” tax relief. A part of the gross donation (donation + 25% gift aid) is retained by IIT AA UK as contribution to its General Charity Fund (see details below).
After you complete the donation forms you should choose “cheque/wire/other currencies”. You will receive a mail which contains instructions on how you can transfer money to IIT AA UK both online and offline. Once IIT AA UK receives your contribution and sends us a confirmation we will update the information on this website. IIT AA UK will mail you a receipt for your contribution.
The donor shall provide a Gift Aid declaration to IIT AA UK which will then claim Gift Aid tax benefit from HMRC at the basic rate only. The donor can claim additional tax relief on his/her donation from HMRC directly if he/she is a higher rate tax payer.
Donations (from corporates/businesses/individuals) where IIT AA UK cannot claim any Gift Aid tax benefits.
If z is the amount donated:
- For z <= 10,000 IITD receives min(0.95z, z-200).
- For 10,000 < z <= 50,000 IITD receives (0.975z – 250).
- For z > 50,000 IITD receives (0.985z – 750).
Donations where IIT AA UK can claim Gift Aid tax benefits (25% of amount donated) .
If z is the amount donated (exclusive of 25% Gift Aid):
- For z <= 1,000 IITD receives z.
- For 1,000 < z <= 9,000 IITD receives (1.15625z – 156.25).
- For z > 9,000 IITD receives (1.21875z – 718.75).
Donors can use the PayU gateway with a debit/credit card to make online donations. However, since the money is received directly by IITD, the donor does not receive any UK tax benefits.
Please send a mail to unlimiitd@admin.iitd.ac.in if you would like to make a recurring donation and inform us of the amount and date. We would be happy to send you a reminder close to the date.
