Prof K.C. Iyer, Dean Infrastructure at IITD was a civil engineer by training. He had completed a BTech from IIT-BHU, an MTech from IIT-Kanpur and a PhD from IIT-Madras making him one of those few who had studied and conducted research at three IITs before coming to IIT Delhi.
Before joining academics, Prof Iyer worked for 15 years in various organisations like Mazagon Dock Limited and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He had been with the faculty of Civil Engineering for around 20 years and Dean Infrastructure for three years. Under his tenure as Dean IIT Delhi had initiated infrastructural projects worth Rs 700 crore. He was overseeing construction projects of around 1.8 million square feet which included a Research & Innovation park, faculty housing, engineering blocks, among many others.
Prof Iyer’s colleagues remember him as a “gem of a person”. He was a stalwart in the area of building contracts and contract management and was instrumental in getting new constructions on campus.
Prof Iyer, died after a long battle with CoViD on 12th June 2021. He was a valuable member of the community and of the administrative team. IIT Delhi wishes to honor this very hardworking and sincere colleague by creating the “Prof K.C. Iyer Chair” in Civil Engineering.
